LOCAL HISTORY VAULT MATERIALS USE POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Local History Vault is to house irreplaceable materials relating to Auburn's past in a secure, climate-controlled setting.

ACCESS TO VAULT MATERIALS

Only serious researchers, whose investigations require the use of the original primary sources, will be allowed to use vault materials. Access to vault materials is allowed by appointment only and with the permission of the Director.

USE OF VAULT MATERIALS

Vault materials may be used only in the Local History Reading Room and only when accompanied by a staff member. All other policies governing the use of the Local History Reading Room will be in effect when using vault materials in the Local History Reading Room. Because of the size of this room, only one researcher can use vault materials at a given time.

The researcher using vault materials must sign for each item used. Only one vault item can be used at a time. The item will be checked by the accompanying staff member before and after use.

Vault materials must be treated with extreme care. They must not be leaned on, written on, folded, traced from, cut, torn, soiled, or handled in any way that might cause them to be damaged.

Under no circumstances will vault materials be allowed to be taken from the building or to be photocopied.

ACCESS TO THE VAULT

Since the materials stored in the vault are unique:

NO ADMITTANCE TO THE VAULT IS ALLOWED EXCEPT BY SPECIAL PERMISSION OF THE DIRECTOR. EVEN WITH PERMISSION, ENTRY TO THE VAULT IS ALLOWED ONLY WHEN ACCOMPANIED AT ALL TIMES BY A STAFF MEMBER.
